The Progression of Affordable High-Def Home Theater Continues with Full HD Integration and Video Upscaling

As part of the second generation of Onkyo high-definition-capable receivers, the TX-SR606 is at the forefront of affordable home theater. The key is to have the most capable version of HDMI. The TX-SR606 provides high-definition video and audio processing for four source components—another first for Onkyo at this level. From Blu-ray Disc players to gaming consoles and cable/satellite boxes, you have everything in the digital realm covered.Apart from 1080p video, the TX-SR606 can upscale all video signals to 1080i, regardless of the connection, for output via HDMI. Onkyo’s own RIHD (Remote Interactive over HDMI) also gives you inter-operability with the displays and playback components from other leading brands. And with an expanded version of Audyssey’s room correction technology, the TX-SR606 maintains the fullness of surround sound audio quality at low volume levels. The TX-SR606 offers all-round excellence rarely seen at this level.

HDMI™ (High-Definition Multimedia Interface)

The latest in digital interface technology is here and it goes by the name of HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface). This high-bandwidth interface supports not only remarkable amounts of uncompressed digital video but audio as well. Up to 5 Gbps of data, more than twice what’s needed for a high-definition movie with surround sound, can be handled with room for future requirements.

All this data is kept in the digital domain as there are no D/A or A/D conversions needed to ensure the highest sound and video quality available. Unparalleled amounts of compressed or uncompressed digital audio and video—up to 5 Gbps of data—can be handled with just one high-speed cable.

192 kHz/24-Bit Audio DACs

Performing at a full 192 kHz/24-bit level of resolution, these state-of-the-art digital-to-analog converters deliver audio performance that is second to none. They boast a higher dynamic range than standard D/A converters, and are virtually resistant to clock jitter -- which means you’ll enjoy the best performance possible from DVD-Audio discs and Super Audio CDs and cleaner sound from your regular DVDs and CDs.

3 Significant Benefits You Get from WRAT
Benefit 1: Uncommonly Low Negative-Feedback Design—so you’ll enjoy cleaner sound on programme peaks
Although NFB (negative feedback) is the most cost-effective way to reduce noise at lower frequencies, there’s a sonic price to pay: larger amounts of NFB severely inhibit an amplifier’s transient response—the ability to respond to large signal gains (e.g. explosions and musical finales)—and actually distort sound at high frequencies. That’s why our engineers use a low negative-feedback design, with audiophile-grade, close-tolerance components at critical points in the signal path, to achieve a frequency response out to 100 kHz. That means you can fully enjoy the sonic benefits from such high-resolution formats as DVD-Audio and Super Audio CD as well as your regular CDs and DVDs.
Benefit 2: Closed Ground-Loop Circuits—so you’ll enjoy greater maximum volume without distortion
If an amplifier’s ground potential (voltage) fluctuates during playback of movie soundtracks or musical performances, you wind up with unpleasant noise. In an open-loop circuit design, all circuits are connected to the power supply via one loop. If all circuits share the same loop (like on many amplifiers), the noise multiplies exponentially. Onkyo’s sophisticated closed-circuit design allows each circuit to go and return directly to the power supply. This cancels any individual circuit noise, and keeps the ground potential free of distortion.
Benefit 3: High Instantaneous-Current Capability—so you’ll enjoy film soundtracks with greater impact
Audio signals are very complex. After the amplifier outputs such signals to a speaker, the speaker itself accumulates energy. When the speaker reflexes, it sends energy back to the amplifier. The amplifier must immediately be able to supply a large amount of high current to cancel the speaker’s reflex energy, and instantaneously send out the next signal. The same high current is also necessary to handle speaker impedance fluctuations, which on occasion force an amplifier to provide four to six times its usual current load. The instantaneous current capability of even Onkyo’s least expensive WRAT receivers is far better than that of most conventional units. This is because competing designs commonly have less than half the current capability. The result? The high-current capability incorporated into all Onkyo receivers means your receiver can deliver movie soundtracks with theatre-like dynamics and clarity—so you’ll get the same exciting sonic slam that you experienced in the cinema.

7.1-Channel Input

With the upcoming release of HD-DVD and Blu-ray Disc, Dolby Digital and DTS have prepared audio formats that represent the future of digital audio entertainment. By connecting an HD-DVD or Blu-ray Disc player with the respective high-definition audio codecs to the receiver via its 7.1-multichannel inputs, you will be able to enjoy superior audio quality.

CinemaFILTER™

The tonal balance of a film soundtrack can be edgy and bright when played back over audio equipment in your home - this is because film soundtracks are designed to be played back in large theaters, using commercial equipment. Onkyo has developed its own solution that restores the correct tonal balance of a movie soundtrack in the smaller environs of your home theater.

Multizone Playback through Powered Zone 2

Powered Zone 2 brings multi-zone entertainment to your home. With Powered Zone 2, you can enjoy one input source in the main room and a different source in another room, through two different connection methods: using a receiver integrated amplifier in Zone 2, or using only a pair of speakers in Zone 2. In the former case, you can enjoy 7.1 surround sound in the main room and play a different A/V source in Zone 2. In the latter case, you can have 5.1 surround sound in the main room and play a different (stereo) AV source in Zone 2.

Theater Dimensional
You can experience the excitement of surround sound from as few as two ordinary speakers.
Onkyo's exclusive Theater-Dimensional circuitry takes the complexity out of conventional surround-sound setups and lets you experience the excitement of surround sound from as few as two ordinary speakers. Want more? Theater-Dimensional's unique multi-speaker modes let you place up to five speakers conveniently by the TV, for the most realistic virtual-surround sound possible.

RDS (Radio Data System)

Since 1987, this system has simplified the tuning of programming of an increasing number of radio frequencies. Incorporated into radio receivers, the system selects programs and displays them on the receiver’s alpha-numerical display. Also, a microprocessor enables the receiver to determine the transmitter frequency that gives the best quality reception.

RI (Remote Interactive)
Doing More with Your iPod - Through Onkyo's Imaginative Sight and Sound
Simply place your iPod in the DS-A1 Remote Interactive Dock connected to any Onkyo RI-compatible amplifier/receiver to experience the powerfully rich sound of Onkyo audio-video components. Control your music from your RI remote and charge your iPod while you enjoy your iPod’s digital music -and photos - through the power of Onkyo’s expansive sound, from mini systems to separate components to home theater systems. Unlike purely iPod-dedicated systems, you can fully integrate the convenience and storage capacity of your iPod with all your other Onkyo home entertainment components - and share the experience with everyone.
